Standing in the small, square room, I realized something. I’d always known it would show up again, rear it’s ugly head emerging from the very back of my mind. The homemade crystal structures swing in the corners of the space, a band I had never heard of played songs I didn’t know the lyrics to. Somehow I still felt as though I belonged there, that it was a place for me and my lost soul. This is what shows are supposed to feel like, this is what it should feel like to feel something bigger than yourself.
The show was over, my body tired of standing, my legs giving out every other step. It was all so worth it. Do you ever feel so exhausted and exhilarated at the exact same time? You form into something you cannot be in the “real world”. Alive, aware, oblivious to your surroundings yet so appreciative of the fact that you lived the exact amount of days to see this. Actual magic in front of you, someone putting every single thought they ever had on the line, out in the open for a bunch of strangers to absorb. Without question, without hesitation, without doubt. Completely and utterly honest, just like you.
I am writing from a different brain. I am here to talk about something I always talk about, but from an enlightened perspective. There is something so beautiful about live music, feeling the sweat drip down your forehead as you jump to the rhythm. Words you don’t have to make an effort to remember falling from your lips, you can feel the vibrations rush through the closed space. Intricately and effortlessly taking you through a different world, a different spectrum of colors you are not used to. Open.
Hey guys. I went to an unexpected show the other day and it really inspired me to write. Held in a tiny, hidden building located somewhere near the Space Needle, three punkish bands screamed to me as their emotions took over. All were incredible, but one stood out. The “headliner” if you can call them that, were named RVIVR, pronounced reviver. Composed of mixture of instrumentalists, the two that caught my attention were the two singers/guitarists (I think). Both so full of passion and power, they filled the room with incredible energy. It was both inspiring and intimidating.
They were both fast and melodic, two things I look for in music. Just as a bonus, they were also politically charged and aware, one thing that stands out in most punk or rock music. This is why I am writing about them and so infatuated. They spoke of love and admiration for others, something that is sometimes overlooked in this type of lifestyle. But we can’t get in that habit. As cheesy as it sounds, love will conquer all else. I mean, it has to right? What the fuck are we here for if it won’t.
Anyway, just a short little thing from my brain. Look up RVIVR, they are on Spotify. And they really rule.
